Paul Lawrence Kitson is a British screenwriter, whose journey into the arts began as an actor. Born and raised in Cambridgeshire, England, he made his stage debut at the tender age of 10 with the Cambridge Music School and was educated at Hinchingbrooke School, a historic institution that once served as the residence of Oliver Cromwell. Paul was a passionate rugby player who captained both his school team and the Cambridgeshire county team. This dual drive made the choice between the arts and rugby agonizing, a decision softened only by his continued love for the sport and his staunch support for the Northampton Saints. Paul furthered his education by simultaneously earning a Bachelor of Arts from Buckinghamshire University and attending the Millennium Theatre School in Hampstead, London, on a three-year scholarship. Additionally, he studied the Meisner Technique program at the Ruskin School of Acting in LA.
Paul first garnered acclaim in London’s West End, notably originating the iconic role of Johnny Castle—made famous on screen by the late Patrick Swayze—in Lionsgate’s celebrated 2006 original production, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage. This production quickly became one of the fastest-selling shows in West End history, generating ticket sales surpassing £15 million.
As a screenwriter, Paul has successfully sold scripts to Oscar® nominated producers and contributed to the development of original stage musicals. His career portfolio includes collaborations with studios such as Warner Bros., Netflix, ITV, and the BBC. Additionally, Paul has served as a writer and artistic director for significant live events with Live Nation and HRH Prince’s Trust and has contributed creatively to fashion campaigns for globally recognized brands such as Dior.
Paul resides in Santa Monica and divides his time between Los Angeles and London.
